STATE — Advertiser Democrat staff writer Nicole Carter received two first place journalism awards Saturday, Oct. 14, during the annual Maine Press Association’s conference.

Carter won for news story and spot news story for her articles about Narcan and school bus bullying.

She also won second place for a business story about the Odd Fellows building.

The Kid’s Edition page [which had been printed each week in all the Western Maine Weeklies] received a second place award in the best young reader engagement idea category for the Advertiser Democrat, responsible for developing the page. Local columnist John Governale, Healthy Oxford Hills and area librarians contributed each week to the page.
