My heart hurts for those affected by the recent mass shootings taking the lives of 18 individuals and affecting the families and the community. As someone from Texas, a state with a history of mass shootings, I want to assure you that things will get better.
Here in Texas most Texans quickly forgot about the 19 children killed in Uvalde and even voted to return the elected officials responsible for providing easy access to assault weapons to the shooter back to office.
This included our Gov. Greg Abbott who bragged about making Texas a Second Amendment sanctuary state just months after the Santa Fe High School shooting that took the lives of eight kids.
He then signed a bill that allows anyone, including felons, to carry loaded assault weapons in public without any questions by law enforcement.
I hope the citizens of Maine do not forget those who lost their lives and will demand action to prevent future killings.
Don’t be like Texas. Don’t forget.
