DEAR SUN SPOTS: The weather is turning cold and the Center for Wisdom’s Women in Lewiston is looking for donations of women’s winter coats and jackets, gloves, hats and boots. We need all sizes (no children’s items, please).

The center at 97 Blake St. (behind Healy Terrace Apartments) is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for drop-offs. For more information, call 513-3922.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, the center will hold a Holiday Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our Sophia’s House location at 143 Blake St. Everyone is invited! — Pat, Lewiston

ANSWER: This is especially for the Sun Spotter who wrote this week looking for places to donate clothing that would be given to those in need, not resold.

For more information about the center, go to https://wisdomswomen.org/. This is a welcoming nonprofit that functions as a grassroots collaborative, offering women safe haven and support to build community, find resources, build self-esteem and resiliency.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Hello to all our friends out there in Sun Spots Land from the Heywood Club on Crockett Ridge in Norway. We will be holding our “Lights Of Love” Christmas Tree Fundraiser again this year.

We have a special mission to keep the club in good condition. The sill on the backside of the clubhouse needs to be replaced as it is in very bad shape. We have had an estimate from a firm that specializes in restoration of old buildings. It’s quite a project and comes at a big price.

For help with this project, please purchase a light for our tree, located at the four corners on Crockett Ridge, in memory or in honor of someone special. Lights are $5 each. The tree will be lit from Dec. 3-31.

Checks can be made out to The Heywood Club and sent to Barbara Townsend at 475 Crockett Ridge Road, Norway, ME, 04268. Thank you for any donation you can make. — Barbara, Norway

ANSWER: A beautiful tradition lives on. I suggest that if you can, please consider purchasing lights to honor the souls who lost their lives in Lewiston on Oct. 25. Make that tree sparkle like never before!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m in desperate need of someone to look at our solar hot water system as the tank is leaking. We purchased it 15 years ago and the company is out of business.

I’d like it to be repaired or removed. I’m afraid it will become worse and flood our basement. It’s a system with solar tubes on the roof and a tank in the basement and is also connected to the furnace. I need someone in a hurry. — Larry, no town

ANSWER: Some plumbers have this expertise. If you have one you’ve worked with in the past, they could help or at least advise you.

I contacted Efficiency Maine (https://www.efficiencymaine.com/) to find a couple of companies that can assist you. One is Maine Solar Solutions in Freeport (https://mainesolarsolutions.com/ 871-7191) and the other is Project Management & Energy Solutions in Harpswell (833-6068, jmpmes@comcast.net). Both companies are registered with Efficiency Maine. There may be more.

Readers, if you know someone who can help Larry with this important repair, please let us know right away.
