DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m trying to reach any descendants of Dr. George Desaulniers and Dr. Lucy O’Connell who lived and practiced in Lewiston from the 1920s to 1950s. My grandmother worked for Dr. O’Connell in the 1920s. She had something I think her grandchildren or great-grandchildren might like to have. ANSWER: I was able to find that Jane Desaulniers Hazelton is the name of the daughter who passed away Oct. 23, 2015, at the age of 96. She was born in Lewiston in 1919.

Jane attended Lewiston schools and Seton Hall College and married Paul V. Hazelton of Saco in 1942, who was a professor of education at Bowdoin College.

Jane was active as a volunteer in the American Red Cross, League of Women Voters, the Girl Scouts, and Neighbors Inc., a volunteer nonmedical organization that assists seniors to maintain their independence in their own homes. In the last role, she drove cancer patients to chemotherapy and radiology appointments for years.

She was a frequent delegate to state Democratic conventions, proudly representing her much-loved town of Topsham. She served for many years on the Maine School Administrative District 75 board of directors, the Riverview Cemetery Association, and was a ballot clerk for Topsham.

Jane’s children are Stephen Hazelton and Mary Hazelton, both of Brunswick, and Anne Vaughan of Brooksville. Jane’s grandchildren are Kate and Sam Vaughan, and great-grandchildren Charlie Byrne, Maeve Byrne and Josephine Schlaegel Vaughan.

Surely a Sun Spotter or two will know of Jane and her children and grandchildren. And if you do, I encourage you to please write in, and contact our reader. I’m going to dig deeper as well and see if I can help find at least one of these folks.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again, I have water in my basement after this latest heavy rain. Do you have someone in the Rolodex who can help me? The woman at the front desk keeps telling me they are short-staffed and will call me when they have an opening. I’m not going to wait any longer.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A gentleman wearing a red scarf was at our coffee spot this morning (Dec. 11) and paid for all our beverages when we came in. There were eight of us!
