SOUTH WOODSTOCK – With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Floyd Eugene Stevens, 77, on Dec. 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on Aug. 28, 1946, in Oxford, Floyd was the son of Floyd and Ruby (Wilson) Stevens. Floyd graduated from Oxford High School and served in the United States Army.
Upon returning to Maine, Floyd worked at the Marcal Paper Mill in Mechanic Falls and at Goss Hardware, where he started driving peddle trucks delivering fuel and propane to local communities. For the next 48 years, Floyd worked as a fuel and propane delivery driver making
many friends along his daily delivery routes. Floyd retired from driving peddle trucks in 2016.
On Sept. 21, 1968, Floyd married his sweetheart and lifelong partner, Alicia Cash, in West Paris and they have been happily married for over 55 years. They settled in South Woodstock and have lived in the “valley” for nearly 50 years.
You could often find Floyd working outside his home. He enjoyed tinkering on tractors and old vehicles, and “puttering” around in his garage. Floyd spent many hours in his garage, often sitting with the doors open enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. Among his greatest joys was cutting and preparing wood to heat the house during the winter, and he took pride in maintaining perfectly piled wood.
After retirement, Floyd became a member of the Antique Tractor Club and traveled to many fairs and tractor pulls with his brother, Rodney, nephew, Scott, special friend, Steve, and many other antique tractor enthusiasts. Floyd proudly assumed the role of the driver of “the bus.”
Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Alicia; and their children, Tony and Tym of Scarborough, and Althea Spencer and husband Rick of Hampden. Floyd was most proud of being called “Grampa” by two special grandchildren, Hunter and Amy Spencer. Additionally, he is survived by
his brother, Rodney of Oxford, a half-sister, Bunny Trawick of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; half-brothers Sherman Stevens, Glenn Stevens, and Carroll Stevens, and half-sisters Beverly Schumitz, Nancy Starbird, and Louise Rich.
Family and friends may attend visiting hours on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris. Online condolences can be shared with his family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com
