AUBURN — A local man awaiting trial on a murder charge in connection with the 2022 slaying of a Lewiston man was charged with assaulting a corrections officer.

An Androscoggin County grand jury handed up an indictment Wednesday against Barry Zollarcoffer, 49, charging him with assault on an officer, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

He also was charged with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail.

Zollarcoffer is being held without bail at the Androscoggin County Jail on a charge of the intentional or knowing murder of 37-year-old Nicholas Blake.

Zollarcoffer is also facing robbery and burglary charges in connection with Blake’s death.

After a police search, he was arrested at his home in October 2022 on the murder, robbery and burglary charges.

According to the indictment, Zollarcoffer assaulted an Androscoggin County Jail corrections officer on Nov. 16, damaging his eyeglasses.
