Bill Ross of Norway works Thursday on disassembling six candlepin bowling lanes at Just-In-Time Recreation at 24 Mollison Way in Lewiston. The lanes are being sold to a bowling alley in Florida to make room for family space, Ross said. Just-In-Time owner Justin Juray said the decision to reopen was made a week after the Oct. 25 shooting and renovation work has been going on for a couple of months. “We decided it was the right thing to do. This alley has been a staple here for 25 years,” he said. “It’s good for the community.” Daryn Slover/Sun Journal

LEWISTON — A bowling alley shuttered since a gunman opened fire Oct. 25 said this week it plans to reopen.

Just-In-Time Recreation at 24 Mollison Way posted pictures on its Facebook page Wednesday showing some work underway inside.

“The changes are slowly happening and coming together,” it said. “We look forward to seeing everyone soon.”

Workers at the bowling alley said Thursday that they are overhauling the building so it won’t look like it did before the shooting. How quickly they can finish the project is uncertain.

The alley’s owners, Justin and Samantha Juray, bought the former Sparetime Recreation in 2021.

It was one of two sites where Robert Card gunned down 18 people and injured at least 13 others.
