It would be a bit of an understatement to say that Robert Allen was “happy” about the writeup his candy received in the Downeast magazine issue last month.
“It’s been the best Christmas I’ve ever had,” said Allen, who bought Mary’s Candy Store on Main St. five years ago. “New customers keep walking in saying, ‘I saw the article in Downeast magazine and want to check you out,'” said Allen.
At that point Allen might as well have taken his front door off the hinges, he said, because they were walking in and out. The door never closed. His mail order business also boomed.
“I’m getting calls from California, Connecticut, Texas and New York. They want me to send them brochures.”
