Five area players have been selected as semifinalists for the Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball awards, which are given to the top senior boys and girls basketball players in the state.
Natalie Beaudoin of Lewiston and Jaydn Pingree of Spruce Mountain are among the 10 semifinalists for Miss Maine Basketball.
The other eight semifinalists are Central’s Izzy Allen, Cheverus’ Maddie Fitzpatrick, Gorham’s Ellie Gay, Scarborough’s Caroline Hartley, Emma Lizotte and Addison Sulikowski of Thornton Academy, Hall-Dale’s Hayden Madore and Dexter’s Mazie Peach.
Included on the list of 10 Mr. Maine Basketball semifinalists are Edward Little’s Marshal Adams, Monmouth’s Sammy Calder and Mt. Blue’s Evans Sterling.
Rounding out the semifinalist are Dylan Burpee of Southern Aroostook, Oceanside twins Carter and Cohen Galley, Gorham’s Ashton Leclerc, Hampden Academy’s Zach McLaughlin, Ellsworth’s Chance Mercier and Orono’s Pierce Walston.
Area players have received the awards twice in the past four years: Edward Little’s John Shea won Mr. Maine Basketball in 2022, while Oxford Hills’ Julia Colby was named Miss Maine Basketball in 2020.
Edward Little has had two Mr. Basketball winners, Shea and Troy Barnies in 2007. Mt. Blue has one, Mike Adams, who is Marshal Adams’ dad and Edward Little’s coach.
Calder would be Monmouth Academy’s first recipient.
Lewiston has one previous Miss Basketball winner, Lynn Girouard, who received the award in 1999.
Neither Spruce Mountain nor its progenitors, Jay and Livermore Falls, have had a Miss Basketball winner.
