100 Years Ago: 1924
The members of several classes at Gardiner High School enjoyed a party on Thursday afternoon at the school building. It was called “The Penny Age Day.” Each student was asked to bring as his or her contribution as many pennies as they were years old and the results were very satisfactory from a financial standpoint. The proceeds will go to buy magazines for the school library.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Miss Nancy Sacks, a member of the staff at Houghton College in Houghton, NY., will present a program of music and a talk on the Netherlands and the Antilles at Marstons Corner Baptist Church Friday evening at 7 o’clock. She is an accomplished pianist and singer and her talk will include details of her work and her recent visit abroad when she traveled extensively with “The Youth in One Accord Rivival Team ” under the leadership of Dr. George Wells.
25 Years Ago: 1999
Ann Macro has been named Pharmacist of the Year for 1998 by the Maine Society of Healthsystem Pharmacists. The award was announced at MSHP’s annual meeting at Sugarloaf USA on Feb. 3.
Macro is the director of pharmacy services at Stephens Memorial Hospital, a position she has held since joining the hospital in 1993. According to MSHP Awards Committee Chairman Charles B. Frost, the award recognizes Macro’s significant contributions to health care in Maine, her involvement in state and national pharmacy organizations and her impressive continuing education accomplishments.
Macro received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy in 1998. She is active in the American Pharmaceutical Association and is chair-elect of the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management. Macro also serves as treasurer of MSHP. She has received numerous professional service awards, and has written articles, and has written articles which have appeared in a variety of pharmacy industry publications.
