DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for the support you give to the community. It is my belief it is extremely important to recognize businesses and individuals that provide support to nonprofit programs in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

The Drop-In Center at 169 Pleasant St. in Auburn would like to recognize Craig Tribuno, Erik Flye and the staff at DaVinci’s Eatery for providing a complete meal the second Saturday of every month to feed more than 100 unhoused guests.

We also want to recognize Lisa Tanguay, a private individual who provides food to feed more than 100 people on the last Saturday of the month and also volunteers at the kitchen.

The Seventh-day Adventist Food Pantry at 316 Minot Ave. in Auburn also opens its door to The Drop-In Center every Monday. Our Drop-In Center could not provide the quality and quantity of meals it provides every week without this generosity.

We feed 150 unhoused guests every week, which is quite an expense for a low-income nonprofit program. Without these three entities donating tremendous amounts of food, our menu would certainly be different.

Our goal is to provide hot, nutritious meals twice a week.

Our guests tell us, “You have the best food.”

Since we opened a little more than two years ago, we have served about 8,200 hot meals, and volunteers have given more than 12,000 hours of their time.

We are open Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, and have multiple case managers present to assist guests with immediate needs, while we provide breakfast and lunch.

On Saturdays, we are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and provide breakfast and lunch. The store is open to provide clothing and personal care needs. The shower is also available those days.

Anyone who would like to know more about us or is interested in volunteering should stop in during our open hours. — Virginia, Lisbon

ANSWER: Keep up the good work, everyone. This nonprofit program brings much value and hope to the community. For all who work and volunteer anywhere to help those in need of assistance with daily living, thank you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have had a big problem with mice in my car and have found that Ramik Bars on Amazon do the trick. I put a block on each side under the hood and eventually find the dead mice on the ground around my car. I hope this helps. — Dawn, Jay

ANSWER: This is advice for our reader from the March 13 Sun Spots who had damage done to her vehicle by mice. Some readers might not like the thought of killing mice, but they do not belong under the hood of our vehicles. Let us know what other ideas you have to help our reader keep her vehicle free of varmints.

Please be sure to use any type of rodent poison responsibly and ensure no children or domestic animals have access to it.
