In spite of the rain storm on Tuesday quite a large number of the members of the Literary Club of Gray gathered at Stimson Memorial hall in the afternoon and listened to Miss Clara Soule of South Portland who addressed them on the subject of Americanization. The lecture was very interesting because Miss Soule is teaching Americanization in the schools of Portland, working with both children and adults and could talk from her own experiences.

A former member of the Farmington Board Selectmen was recognized at the 125th anniversary of Farmington Grange April 16.

Emily Floyd, retired this year as chairman of the selectmen, was presented the Community Citizen award by National Grange Lecturer Clyde Berry of Maine.

Berry also presented membership certificates to Edith McCleary for 60 years and Glenn A. and Velma Carson for 50 years. Floyd was escorted to the altar by her husband Dr. Paul Floyd and presented with an orchid corsage. Her award was signed by the National Grange Master and Berry.

Special music was offered by members of Oxford and Bryant Pond Granges and an “Easter Lily” poem was read by Deputy Robert Smith. Weslene Marble placed a lily on the altar.

Master Steve Scharoun welcomed 65 people including 14 Granges and members of the community. Several selectmen were present in observance of Easter.

Histories of the Grange and Farmington Grange were presented by McCleary.

In recognition of the special event, favors made of a round white doily with the grange gold seal in the center and a yellow and blue streamer stating Farmington Grange No. 12 and 125th anniversary were distributed.
