REGION — Voters in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls on Tuesday, April 23, approved the proposed $24.6 million budget for Regional School Unit 73 by a vote of 460 to 261.

In Jay, the vote was 220 yes and 117 no. In Livermore Falls, the vote was 151 to 87 and in Livermore it was 89 to 57.

The vote completed the budget process. There was only one question on the ballot. It asked for approval of the budget for the upcoming school year that was adopted at the latest budget meeting.

On April 11 voters approved 20 individual articles relating to the budget which is 6.1% more than the $23.21 million approved for the current school year.

Each of the three towns was also holding its town meeting by referendum vote Tuesday.

Livermore Falls Town Clerk Doris Austin said about 169 ballots had been cast a little after 4 p.m. The town has 1,616 registered voters, she noted.

Rebecca Ouellette’s daughter Cora Ames received a “future voter” sticker after she fed her mom’s ballots into the machine for the town’s referendum vote.

Most of the voting booths at the Livermore Falls Fire Station were occupied.

Christina LaPointe brought her children, Josiah LaPointe and Allyannah Wilsey with her to vote.

In Livermore, 98 people had voted about 4:30 p.m., Michelle Bernier, deputy town clerk, said. On Thursday Town Clerk Amanda Tyler said the number of registered voters is 1,986.

Mary Hamblin, a senior at Spruce Mountain High School was one of several voting at the Livermore Community Center. Her mother, Deanna Hamblin who is the school nurse at Spruce Mountain Primary School, said Mary voted for the first time in the Presidential Primary on March 5.

In Jay at about 5 p.m. 279 votes had been cast which included absentee ballots. Many voting booths were empty at the time. The town has 3,469 registered voters.
