LEWISTON — Edward Little sophomore Calvin Vincent earned Region 4’s No. 1 boys seed for the state singles tournament at the Region 4 Qualifier on Saturday at Lewiston High School.

Area players claimed 12 of the region’s 16 boys and girls spots at the state singles tournament, which will be at Bates College May 17, 18 and 20.

Mt. Blue’s James Stinson is Region 4’s second boys seed, followed by Lewiston’s Austin Vincent and Spruce Mountain’s Ian York. Madison’s Ethan Linkletter is the fifth seed, then Mt. Blue’s Tim Williamson, Spruce Mountain’s Jazaih Lavoie and the eighth seed, Lewiston’s Caleb Paris.

Maranacook’s Claire Dwyer claimed Region 4’s top girls seed. Mt. Blue’s Gracie Ross is second and Spruce Mountain’s Aubrey Kachnovich is third. The girls fourth through eighth seeds are, in order: Maranacook’s Grace Tweedie, Lewiston’s Honora White, Mountain Valley’s Ella Young, Madison’s Emilee Norton and Lewiston’s Claudia Cucubica.

SOFTBALL
MONMOUTH 12, MARANACOOK/WINTHROP 2: Shannah Parsons tossed a two-hitter and helped her own cause with a triple, a double and four RBIs as the Mustangs earned the five-inning mercy rule win in Monmouth.

Rileigh Chase added two doubles and a single for Monmouth (5-2) while Madi Hear chipped in two singles.

Clara Harriman doubled for the Black Bears (1-6).

BASEBALL
SKOWHEGAN 8, MT. BLUE 0: Silas Tibbetts pitched a no-hitter as Skowhegan defeated Mt. Blue in Skowhegan.

Tibbetts struck out 12 and did not walk a batter. Chance Tibbetts doubled for the River Hawks (5-2), while Jason Aubin had two singles and an RBI.

Mt. Blue falls to 2-3.

BOYS LACROSSE
MARANACOOK/WINTHROP 14, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 13: Owen Lyons tallied four goals and four assists as the Black Bears (6-0) edged the Panthers (3-4) in Readfield.

Bennett Ross added three goals, and Ethan Chilton had two goals and an assist.

Zach Leinwand led NYA with four goals and an assist. The Panthers also got three goals and an assist from Jack Bathe, and two goals and three assists from Nick Pelletier.
