Catherine Ann Sautter

AUBURN – Catherine Ann Sautter passed away peacefully on May 5, 2024, at Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She had been a resident at Schooner Memory Care in Auburn for the past three years where they became her family and treated her with respect, dignity, and love.

Cathy was born in Pierson, Florida, on April 12, 1939, to Kelly and Mildred Crews, the oldest of four kids. Her journey through life led her to Douglas Sautter who was in the Navy. They married in 1963 and soon established a blended family of seven kids.

As a Navy family, they were stationed in Bermuda in 1967. Cathy and Doug became avid bowlers there and won many tournaments and championships, with a room full of trophies to prove it. She became President of the Navy Wives Club during their stint in Bermuda, an accomplishment of which she was very proud.

After a short stay at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland, the family was transferred to Brunswick Naval Air Station where they settled in Lisbon Falls and made it their forever home. To help make ends meet for such a large family, Cathy worked for a time as a seamstress at HealthTex in Brunswick. She also worked at Maine Electronics in Lisbon and sold Home Interiors decorating products from her home. After retiring from the Navy, her husband, Doug, started Lisbon Upholstery in the rear of what was then the Durisko Real Estate building in downtown Lisbon Falls. Cathy worked with Doug for many years until he passed away in 1991.

After her son, Mark, took over the upholstery business in 1996, she worked with him as a seamstress for 15 years.

Raising her family in Lisbon Falls, Cathy became an enthusiastic sports fan. She would often be seen in the bleachers at elementary, middle, or high school basketball games and cheering competitions lending support to her kids and grandkids. She could also be seen on the edge of the field cheering on the Lisbon Greyhounds as her kids and grandkids played softball, field hockey, baseball, and soccer. She was known far and wide for her vociferous support, and for her little book where she always kept meticulous stats of the game at hand. Cathy loved her Red Sox and Celtics and she traveled many times with family to Fenway Park and TD Garden in Boston to see them play.

Cathy was a longtime member of the Lisbon Falls Baptist Church where she attended regularly and had many dear friends. She was a volunteer at Vacation Bible School where she loved helping the kids with various crafts.

From her humble beginning in Lisbon Falls in 1972, Gram, as she was affectionately known by her grandkids, over the years became the matriarch of a huge, sprawling family. She will always be remembered for her undeniable presence and her warm and caring heart. She will be greatly missed…

Cathy was predeceased by her parents, Kelly and Mildred, her two brothers, Junior and Donnie, and by her two daughters, Tracy Sautter and Kelley Sautter.

She is survived by her sister, Debra Willis of Middleburg, Florida, and her five children, Terry Indermuehle of Punta Gorda, Florida, Mark Fish and his husband Russell Carter of Richmond, Maine, Kim Mason and her husband Paul of Lisbon Falls, Doug Sautter and his wife Nicole of Lisbon Falls, Jody Sautter/Douglass of Lisbon, sixteen grandkids, and 28 great-grandkids.

A Visitation will be held at Crosman Funeral Home in Lisbon Falls, Maine on Monday the 13, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., with an in-house funeral service at 12 p.m., followed by Committal Prayers at Gracelawn Cemetery in Auburn.

Arrangements are under the care of Crosman Funeral Home | 40 Main Street Lisbon Falls, ME 04252

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Cathy’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org
