DEAR SUN SPOTS: A large indoor/outdoor rummage and yard sale will be held at the First Universalist Church at 36 Pine St. in South Paris on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon.

A bag sale will follow from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Adult and children’s clothes, books, toys, furniture, kitchenware, holiday décor, household items, tools, and much more will be available at very reasonable prices. — No name, South Paris

ANSWER: Let’s fit in as many of these sales as we can while the weather is good. I don’t know about you all, but I have found some fantastic bargains, and even completely free items this year.

And remember, if you’re involved with a nonprofit organization, be sure to let me know about any of your fundraisers. I’ll help you get the word out.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For more than 25 years, I have collected beverage tabs as a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House in Portland. Sun Spots readers have been extremely supportive. I usually made two trips a year to deliver them, so it is with sadness that I must let all of you know that I am not able to do this any longer. Should anyone want to volunteer for this wonderful project, please contact me. Thank you to everyone who has helped with this project over the years! — Mary Ann, Auburn

ANSWER: Mary Ann, you have been a wonderful steward to Ronald McDonald House and all the families they have served for many, many years. Filling your shoes will take a volunteer with the same heart and dedication that you have exhibited.

The task involves collecting the aluminum pop tabs and other clean aluminum items then transporting them to 250 Brackett St. in Portland at your convenience.

Proceeds made from recycling these tabs will go toward helping care for families staying at the House while their critically ill child undergoes treatment. For more information, go to: https://rmhcmaine.org/tab-top-program/.

Six years ago, I stayed at Ronald McDonald House while my infant granddaughter was in critical condition at the Barbara Bush Center. I was so impressed with the comfort and compassion I received during my time there. I was able to get a good quiet night’s rest and snacks, and it was close enough to the hospital that I was able to just walk back and forth.

I hope that a Sun Spots reader will answer Mary Ann’s request and take over for her. Mary Ann, I wish you all the best and please let us know what happens!
