An Androscoggin County grand jury handed up an indictment against Jose F. Mota Jr., 39, charging him with two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, each crime a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Mota also was charged with unlawful possession of crack cocaine with a prior conviction and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person stemming from a 2021 drug conviction.

Each of those crimes carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.

An additional felony of unlawful possession of cocaine is punishable by up to fine years in prison.

Mota was arrested in October after the Auburn Police Department’s Proactive Community Enforcement Unit executed search warrants at 124 Goff St. and 21 Swett Ave.

Between both addresses, police seized 27 grams of crack cocaine, 6 1/2 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, 15 ecstasy pills, scales, packaging materials and $500 in suspected drug proceeds, according to authorities.

Police said they also seized a handgun and ballistics vest at one of the addresses.

Mota was booked at Androscoggin County Jail and later released on $7,500 cash bail.
