Nora McCourt of Mt. Blue and Beckett Cote of Messalonskee were the individual champions Saturday in the Roy Varney Hornet Classic at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington.
The event was originally scheduled to take place at the Maine Outdoor Wellness Center in Turner but was moved to Titcomb because of snow conditions.
Cote completed the 5-kilometer course in 15 minutes, 54.4 seconds. He was followed by Mt. Blue’s Henri McCourt (16:30), Freeport’s Owen Dawson (16:53.8), Greely’s Tait Harvey (17:05.4) and Brunswick’s Wyeth Mackey (17:23.8).
Nora McCourt’s winning time was 20:26.6. Orono’s Clara White (20:29), Greely’s Rowan Barry (21:09.4), Mt. Blue’s Maya Kellett (21:13.4) and Freeport’s Reed Proscia (21:14.8) rounded out the top five.
Mt. Blue was the boys team champion with 762 points, four more than Brunswick.
Freeport edged Mt. Blue for girls title — 771-766.
BOYS BASKETBALL
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 67, WESTBROOK 65: Jonny Patenaude scored 24 points, including the winning basket in the final minute, as the Patriots (3-10) withstood a comeback by the Blue Blazes (1-9) in Westbrook.
Patenaude hit an off-balance, turnaround jumper from near the free-throw line with 20 seconds left, and the Patriots stopped Westbrook’s next two possessions – the final one after a turnover following an inbounds pass from underneath the basket with 3.5 seconds left.
Colby Mitchell added 21 points, including four 3-pointers.
Moses Semuhoza scored 19 points, Gio Staples had 12 and David Mbuyamba followed with 11 for the Blue Blazes.
Westbrook fought back from a 19-3 first-quarter deficit. The Blue Blazes trailed 39-26 at halftime but pulled to within 50-46 by the end of the third quarter.
SOUTH PORTLAND 55, OXFORD HILLS 52: Manny Hidalgo tallied 25 points, leading the Red Riots (9-2) to a win over the Vikings (6-6) in Paris.
Darius Johnson chipped in with 10 points.
Cameron Pulkkinen scored 17 points for Oxford Hills.
ST. DOMINIC 66, SACOPEE VALLEY 22: Jack Brocke led a balanced offense with 14 points as the Saints (10-1) east past the Hawks (2-10) in Auburn.Ten players scored for St. Dom’s, including Mason LaFlamme with 12 points.
Silas Nielsen put in 17 points for Sacopee.
LAKE REGION 60, POLAND 42: Brock Gibbons scored 14 points to pace four Lakers in double digits against the Knights in Naples.
Jacoby Bardsley and Cooper Smith each had 12 points and Aidan Roberts finished with 11 points for Lake Region (4-6).
Damon Martin tallied 15 points for Poland (6-3).
OAK HILL 61, LEAVITT 54: Braden Dubuc scored 18 points for the Raiders (3-8) in a win over the Hornets (4-6) at Wales.
Eli Desmond added 11 point sand Kaileb Littlefield had 10.
Colin Schlobohm paced Leavitt with 25 points.
PINE TREE ACADEMY 73, RANGELEY 28: Colby Solberg scored 20 points, Collin Verrill added 16, and the Breakers (8-2) built a 46-14 lead in the first half against the Lakers (1-8) in Freeport.
Solberg also had six rebounds and six steals, while Verrill had seven rebounds, two steals and four assists.
Lucky Kabeya added nine points and seven steals.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 70, LISBON 41: Led by Presli Knapp’s 16 points, the Raiders (2-9) picked up a win over the Greyhounds (0-11) in Lisbon.
Ines Palomino chipped in with 11 points.
Elizabeth Ferero and Hannah Perron each scored 17 points for Lisbon.
OXFORD HILLS 34, SOUTH PORTLAND 29: Ella Pelletier finished with 21 points for the Vikings (9-2) in a win over the Red Riots (8-3) at South Portland.
Maddy Herrick contributed another eight points for Oxford Hills.
South Portland’s Caleigh Corcoran, Mya Lawrence, Destiny Peter and Emma Travis all scored six points.
POLAND 55, LAKE REGION 42: Lise Poublan scored 13 points, Ruby Taylor added 10, and the Knights (8-1) handled the Lakers (5-5) in Naples.
Bella Smith tallied 16 points and Margo Tremblay put in 12 for the Lakers.
ST. DOMINIC 47, SACOPEE VALLEY 40: Chloe Croteau led the Saints (7-4) with 19 points and Charli Apodaca contributed 16 in a win over the Hawks (2-10) in Auburn.Amara Parker finished with 14 points for Sacopee.
LEAVITT 50, OAK HILL 32: Caitlyn McCoy drained seven 3-pointers as the Hornets (7-3) stormed back from a 10-point halftime deficit against the Raiders (2-10) in Turner.
McCoy finished with 27 points and Jordyn Boulay scored 10 for Leavitt.
Shelby Elwell led Oak Hill with nine points.
DIRIGO 43, TRAIP ACADEMY 30: Abby Luczynski scored 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the Cougars’ (8-4) win over the Rangers (5-7) in Kittery.
Aleiah Ward added eight points and eight rebounds for Dirigo, while Emily Woods dished out 10 assists and Diana Cayer had seven points, six rebounds and three blocks.
Lilly Stuart led Traip with 10 points, and Rorie Ford his three 3-pointers for nine points.
BOYS HOCKEY
EDWARD LITTLE 1, FALMOUTH 0: Breccan Albert tipped in an Andrew Clements shot in overtime to give the Red Eddies (3-5) a win over the Navigators (7-2) at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.
Isaac Jalbert got the secondary assist, winning the offensive zone draw to Clements.
Edward Little’s Caden Westhoven had 27 saves for the shutout. Falmouth goalie Brandon White had 37 stops.
GIRLS HOCKEY
EDWARD LITTLE 7, WINSLOW 2: Leksi Langevin scored twice and had two assists for Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland/Monmouth/Oxford Hills (5-3-2) in a win over Winslow/Gardiner/Cony/Messalonskee/Lawrence/Erskine/Maranacook (3-7) at the Thomas College Ice Vault in Hallowell.
Madeline Langan and Reegan Saunders also had two goals apiece. Langan added an assist. Gabrielle Langelier was the other goal scorer for the Red Hornets.
Elliotte Podey and Alexa Caccamo scored for the Black Tigers.
BRUNSWICK 8, ST. DOMINIC 1: Solveig Ledwick notched a hat trick while Lisi Palmer and Lauren Labbe each scored twice for the Dragons (8-3) in a win over the Saints (2-9) at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.
Natalie Perham contributed a goal and an assist. Gillian Countway had two assists, and Palmer and Maeve Donohue each had one assist.
Madeline Andrews got the lone tally for St. Dom’s.
Hensleigh Labonte made four saves for Brunswick. Alana Wheeler of St. Dom’s had 39 stops.
