LEWISTON — A 15-year-old local boy has been arrested in connection with a gunshot fired Monday afternoon on Pierce Street.
Police said surveillance camera footage from the area along with an investigation by the school resource officer at Lewiston Middle School helped lead them to the suspect.
The teen, who was not identified, was taken to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. He was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
Police said the teen fired a single shot in the area of 79 Pierce St. about 3:15 p.m. Monday. Nobody was hurt but an apartment house was struck by the round.
The shooting was reported by numerous people who live and work in the downtown. Witnesses said that when the shot was fired there were school buses in the area dropping children off near their homes.
The shooting occurred in the same area — and at the same time of day — where a man was wounded during a downtown shootout in December. In that case, 36-year-old Mickiel James of Livermore Falls was charged with aggravated reckless conduct and reckless conduct with a firearm.
The Monday shooting remains under investigation.
