AUBURN — No one was injured Thursday when a police cruiser collided with an SUV driven by a local teenager on Minot Avenue.
Police said that at about 2:30 p.m., an officer was driving west on Minot Avenue in a marked cruiser when the teen pulled onto Minot Avenue from Western Avenue.
At the time, the cruiser was in an outside lane while a school bus was traveling on the inside lane and making a turn onto Western Avenue, police said.
It appeared that with the bus in his line of sight, the teenager was unable to see the oncoming cruiser, police said. As the teen drove across Minot Avenue and toward the rotary, his 2010 Chevrolet Traverse was struck by the cruiser on the rear of the rear of the driver’s side.
Both vehicles, including the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe police cruiser, were heavily damaged.
Because the crash involved a city vehicle, the crash is being investigated by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, which is customary when police cruisers are involved in wrecks.
No charges were filed in the wreck.
