OXFORD — A 7-year-old girl rescued from a camper fire Tuesday on Gore Road is expected to survive, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Firefighters pulled the child out of the flaming camper shortly after 5 p.m. at 72 Gore Road.

The girl was brought to MaineHealth Stephens Hospital in Norway and taken by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

A 3-year-old sibling who had been inside the camper was able to escape before firefighters arrived.

Both children were treated for smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported.

The Office of State Fire Marshal said the preliminary investigation suggests the fire may have started accidentally as the younger child played with a lighter.

The fire was quickly extinguished by crews and did not spread to another nearby camper and home on the property.

Investigators said all occupants of the property are cooperating with the investigation.
