A Freeport woman died Thursday, nearly a week after she was critically injured when the SUV she was driving collided with a tanker truck in Hebron on Jan. 9 , according to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
Lauren Sapienza, 40, died of her injuries after she was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maj. Dana Thompson said.
The driver of the Maine Energy Systems tanker truck, 55-year-old James Bennett of Bethel, was seriously injured and taken to MaineHealth Stephens Hospital in Norway, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Sawyer Nareff, 19, of Norway, driving another vehicle involved in the crash on Route 119, and passengers Mandi Coffin, 21, and Everleigh Nareff, 2 months old, were either not injured or received minor injuries.
Sapineza was from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and an “artist to the core,” according to the obituary posted by Dobson Family and Cremation Services. She studied performance at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
Sapienza was described as “deeply kind” and had a way of “making life feel brighter just simply by being in it. She brought people together. She listened fully. She loved boldly. She led with her heart and filled every room with her presence. There was a palpable warmth that radiated from her, something you felt the moment she entered a space,” her obituary said.
