ANSWER: This is a helpful topic. I like the term “right-size.” It sounds more positive than “downsize,” which seems diminishing.
My older friends seem to be embracing “right-sizing.” They speak of keeping their independence and having more time to enjoy their lives rather than having the responsibility of caring for homes and things they no longer want or need. Please share your thoughts.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Girl Scouts of River Valley is hosting a program to introduce families to what Girl Scouts can offer. It will be held Feb. 11 from 6-7 p.m. at High Street Congregational Church, 106 Pleasant St. in Auburn.
We will have a traditional meeting with an opening, discuss what activities we will be working on, learn by doing, and end the meeting with a traditional closing.
Parents and guardians will have an opportunity to ask questions about the program, volunteering, and what the program can do for all involved.

ANSWER: Girls Scouts is about so much more than selling cookies! Building confidence, making friends, learning skills and being encouraged should always be supported. I hope you have a big turnout. Thanks to all the volunteers who keep the Girl Scout organization running.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Lewiston-Auburn Optimist Club, the Tri-Town Optimist Club and the Gray-New Gloucester Optimist Club are each sponsoring an essay contest on the topic, “How My Acts of Service Help Me Understand what my Community Means to Me. ”
Each club winner will win $100 and advance to the district contest, where the $2,500 scholarship will be awarded. Contest essays are due to the Optimist Club by Feb. 10.
