Josephine M. Biron
AUBURN – Josephine, 97, passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Auburn on March 27, 2026 after declining quickly over the prior two weeks from heart problems.
Born on Jan. 17, 1929 on a farm in Livermore Falls, the fourth of eight children, of Philip and Margaret Perry.
The family moved to Lewiston after their dad had been traveling weekly to work there. Josephine and her older sister, Theresa, began working in the Continental Mill on second shift prior to their move to Lewiston. They were also attending Lewiston High School at the time.
She met her future husband, Gerard Biron, on a blind date and they were married on Nov. 23, 1950. They had two daughters, Geraldine and Susanne and were very devoted to their family. They both worked at Hill Mill and worked separate shifts so that one of them was always available for their girls.
Her daughter, Geraldine and Jo took cake decorating classes together and created many beautiful cakes for family and friends. She was also gifted at knitting and crocheting and created many beautiful sweaters and mittens for her daughters, herself and others. She also enjoyed sewing, making some clothing for both her daughters as well as teaching her daughter Sue to sew.
Her husband passed away at the age of 71 which was very difficult for her, so she went back to work.
She retired from Bates Mill but went back several times as she enjoyed her job and the people she worked with… they wanted her back as well!
She was very close to her brothers and sisters, and the sisters spent a great deal of time together. On Saturdays, Jo would pick up her two sisters, Theresa and Clara, and they would go to church, out to eat and often shopping afterwards. They started to also hang out on Saturday with her other two brothers, Meddy and Arthur and their wives and played Dominos or cards late into the night, rotating houses.
As Josephine’s health began to decline, she started to do word searches regularly as it was important to her to keep her mind sharp.
She is survived by a brother, Meddy Perry and wife Sue, sister, Clara Glendenning; as well as daughters and their spouses Geraldine St. Amand (Carroll), and Susanne Rossignol (Dudley); four grandchildren, Sean St. Amand, Sarah Barker, Jayme Gervais and Jared Rossignol; as well as six great-grandchildren, Shay-Lynn, Kendall, Milo, Kali, Sawyer and Marlee; also, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Philip and Margaret Perry; her husband, Gerard Biron; brothers Albert, Arthur and Roland Perry as well as sisters Clara Perry and Theresa Moody. Also predeceased by sisters-in-law Loretta Perry and Bonnie Perry as well as brother-in-law, Harlan Moody; and great-grandchild, Sean St. Amand II.
