Maine author Matt Tavares visited Rangeley Lakes Regional School on April 9 to read and teach students about how he writes his children’s books. Each year, the school tries to bring an author in to speak with students.
“It’s part of an annual author visit that we started three years ago here, bringing Maine authors to school to connect with our students,” Librarian Abigail Thompson said. “(Authors) talk about the process of writing and illustrating and making books and really bringing that whole process alive and making concrete connections with it for our students.”
Tavares has published over 20 children’s books with selections including “Honor Flight,” “Dasher” and “Hoops.” The visit was made possible through a grant from the Maine Literacy Fund through the Maine Community Foundation.
