Edith Joanne Palmer

RUMFORD – Edith Joanne Palmer, 84, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Rumford Community Home. She was a resident of Andover.

She was born in Andover on Aug. 17, 1941, the daughter of Ernest and Ismay (Roberts) White. She worked at Andover Wood Products, M&R Dowel and also for security at Sunday River Ski Resort. She was an avid Red Sox Fan and rarely missed a game on TV or the radio. She enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards with family and friends and loved to play Bingo.

Edith was married to Maurice Palmer who died in Rumford on Oct. 16, 1989. Together they made their home in Andover and raised their six children there.

Survivors include her daughters Rhonda Jodrey and husband Richard of Andover and Robin Palmer of Starks, sons Edward Palmer and companion Mary of Greenwood, Russell Palmer and wife Jude of Lexington, Ky. and Warren Palmer of Lexington, Ky.; three brothers, Dwight Hutchins of Andover, Freddie White of Rumford and Paul White of Orrington, three sisters, Barbara Warner of Andover, Viola Hodgkins of Rumford and Bonnie Merchant of Rumford; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Nathan, Josh, Megan, Whitney, Darren, Noah, Cassidy, and Morgan; 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Glendon; grandson, Glendon Jr.; several brothers; and her beloved dog, Fenway.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday April 24, at the Andover Congregational Church. Interment later in the spring will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Andover. Friends and family are invited to call at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and all are invited to wear their favorite Red Sox attire.
