LEWISTON – Frank D. Coffin of Auburn, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021, at CMMC in Lewiston, after a brief battle with advanced lung cancer. He was 65.Family meant everything to Frank. He and his wife Malinda were together for 46 years. He was also a devoted Father to his daughters, Kathleen and Nicole. To say that Frank was also a proud Grandfather is an understatement. His three grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Papa”, meant the world to him.At an early age, Frank realized that he had a gift for music. With the support of his parents, he began playing in bands throughout his high school years. Although Frank played multiple instruments, you would most often find him playing bass. He enjoyed being part of the “rhythm section” in the band. He would often say that he liked to “lock up with the drums” with his “elbow on the hi-hat”. Frank also was an amazing singer.It was because of his reputation as a great singer and player that he would soon meet Malinda. They quickly fell in love, and not only became a lifelong couple, but also became partners on the stage. Their talents were quickly noticed by everyone, including the Department of Defense, who invited them to tour Europe and entertain our troops. They also opened for several national acts and toured around New England. Frank was also the one who was called whenever other bands needed a player. He has played with countless musicians throughout the years, both live and on studio recordings.For 20 years, Frank was sharing his knowledge of music with the thousands of people who would come to him for every sort of advice at The Musicians 1st Choice in Augusta. He enjoyed helping people find their first guitar and watch first time players turn into musicians. Frank was a mentor and friend to literally everyone that he met. He was always quick to share his great sense of humor and life experience with anyone. After meeting him for the first time, you always felt like you knew him for a lifetime.We want to thank the many faithful friends and family members who would call or text Frank with words of love and encouragement. Your words inspired him to get through the toughest times of his life. You were all his angels.Frank will be lovingly missed by his wife Malinda Letourneau of 46 years, his daughter Kathleen Buiniskas and her husband Frank Buiniskas, his daughter Nicole Letourneau and her fiancé James Smith, his grandson Gage Buiniskas, his granddaughter Chelsea Buiniskas, his grandson, Jakobi Smith, his mother Alice Marie Coffin, his father Millett Coffin, his sister Sandra Gammon and her husband Gary Gammon, his brother Tom Coffin and his husband John McCurtin, his many nieces and nephews, as well as his many countless friends.A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at a later date.
