Ornamental grass: No mowing, but no foot traffic allowed, either.
Moss: No mowing, very resilient and easy to install. The downside? Your lawn better have plenty of shade.
Creeping Charlie: No mowing, fertilizing or watering. It’s very durable, but can also spread easily out of control.
Sweet woodruff: An edible herb that’s weed resistant. This one also requires shade.
Red creeping thyme: Drought tolerate but expensive and tough to install.
Clover: Another one that won’t demand much from you, but clover, like Creeping Charlie, can spread fast.
Flower and shrub bed: Nice to look at. Resilient. They do require maintenance, though, and your soil will need proper drainage.
Chamomile: Beautiful, nicely scented and drought resistant, this is a sun-loving plant that can be toxic to critters.
Snow-in-Summer: Gets its name from the white blooms that blanket the plants in spring and summer. This is also a resilient plant, but one that’s fragile and easily damaged by foot traffic.
Dutch clover: With its intricate white flowers, this one makes for a thick and comfortable lawn alternative. Careful, though. It spreads easily and deer are really fond of it.
