MEXICO — Professional wrestling returns to Mexico Recreation Center at 2 p.m. Sunday with an NWA On Fire card.

In last month’s visit to the gym, NWA On Fire champion Brian Fury retained his title against Julian Starr. On Sunday, Starr gets another shot one-on-one with the champ. And this time veteran official Tommy Savoldi, a longtime referee in the World Wrestling Federation, World Championship Wrestling and several other promotions, will be the man in stripes.

Tag team champs Juicy Justin Corino and Chris Steeler defend their NWA On Fire titles against Pyro and Ka$h, Da Hoodz. Other wrestlers scheduled to appear include the Samoan Warriors, Fala and Makua, D.C. Dillinger of the Dynasty, Scotty Slade, Body Slam Wrestling heavyweight champion Sebastian Cruz, Richie Rotten and Preacher Finneau James.

The cameras will be rolling for a television taping, so fans are asked to being their signs and their voices.

Tickets are available at Maddy’s Pizza in Mexico and Mountain Valley Variety in Rumford for $5. Tickets at the door on Sunday are $7.

Bates to host Maine Games field hockey

LEWISTON — Bates College will provide the venue this year for the Maine Games State Field Hockey Championships on Saturday, and Sunday, June 25-26. This is the first time that the Maine Games field hockey festival will be played on the Bobcats’ home turf.

“I’m thrilled to have Bates step forward to provide us with such a quality venue for these two tournaments,” said Maine Games executive director, Jeff Scully. “Their (turf) field will provide our athletes with a great surface, as well as a beautiful backdrop for field hockey this year.”

Registration is now open for both the women’s tournament as well as the scholastic tournament, and both events are limited to the first 12 teams to register online. To register for this year’s Maine Games State Field Hockey Championships go to www.mainegames.org.
