PORTLAND — A new retailer is opening in the space in downtown Portland formerly occupied by an L.L. Bean outlet.
A Renys store opens its doors Thursday in the Congress Street space that L.L. Bean vacated last fall.
L.L. Bean opened the store in 1996 in an effort to help revitalize the Congress Street retail district, but decided to close it last year because it didn’t fit into the company’s strategic plan.
Renys is a discount retailer based in Newcastle, with 13 other stores in Maine.
