Michael Franti and his band Spearhead, which blends hip-hop with funk, reggae, jazz, folk, and rock, will perform Sunday, June 19, at the State Theatre’s new outdoor concert site in Portland. Franti, the band’s lead vocalist, has joined Carlos Santana for the “2011 Sound of Collective Consciousness Tour,” beginning Aug. 25 in Seattle. Spearhead performed to a sold-out crowd at the State Theatre in November 2010. This is the second show announced by State Theatre for its Concerts on the Waterfront at Ocean Gateway, at Commercial Street and Franklin Arterial. Guster will perform on Aug. 6. Tickets to the Spearhead concert are $35 in advance, $40 day of show (plus applicable fees). Children under 2 admitted free. The concert will begin at 6 p.m.; doors will open at 4 p.m. Guster concert tickets are $32 in advance, $35 day of show.
