NORWAY — The Select Board on Thursday authorized the purchase of a plow truck, contingent on voters approving the expenditure at June’s town meeting.

The purchase price was capped at $235,000.

Voters will be asked to place $100,000 in the capital reserve account toward the purchase. There is a little more than $100,000 set aside for it. The remainder would come from the town’s allotment of the American Rescue Plan Act.

Because of a backlog of vehicles being built and with none on the lot, the town will not get delivery of the Mack truck until the fall of 2023. Any delay in ordering could push that back to 2024, which is why officials wanted to move ahead now. If voters reject the purchase, the dealer would be able to sell the vehicle to another municipality.

The truck will replace the 2012 International TerraStar that had major engine issues last year. Town officials, who said the truck is not worth anything to sell or trade, believe they can get one more year out of it.

In other business, the board approved an anonymous $2,250 donation toward a new police sport utility vehicle.

The board also accepted a $300 donation from the Cummings family for the Norway Family Fishing Festival scheduled Saturday, June 4, at Butters Park. It will be used to purchase a lifetime fishing license for the youngster who wins the raffle for the Stuart B. Cummings Lifetime Fishing Award. Cummings was an avid fisherman all his life.

Traffic on Water Street will be restricted to one lane during the festival.

The board also approved Chris Bilodeau as the temporary plumbing inspector.
