100 Years Ago: 1922
The members of Martindale Country Club anticipate the dance Saturday evening, which is to be the first of a series to be held thruout the summer. The golf Inks and cool verandahs of the clubhouse will prove to be a godsend this season to the tired businessman who is unable to spend the hot weather at the beach or the mountains and will probably be the center of all of the summer social activities. Golf tournaments and a tennis exhibition is planned for Saturday afternoon.
50 Years Ago: 1972
A Shipwreck Island Spring Fair will be held at the Calvary United Methodist Church, in the Triangle. at 10 a.m. on June 10. The event will take place on the lawn at the church with many special attractions such as home-cooked food, candy knit goods, jewelry, white elephants, novelties, wooden articles, etc. Hot dogs and steamed clams will be served at noon and a public supper from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m will be held in the dining hall with continuous servings of baked beans and casseroles.
25 Years Ago: 1997
(From a Sun Journal photo) Pictured rehearsing at the Guy E. Rowe Elementary School in Norway Saturday is the two-man band who led the second annual “Walk For Me” to the Mildred E. Fox School in South Paris. Playing the trumpet is John Gray and Justine Johnson is playing the drum. Both are from South Paris. The walk is sponsored by guidance counselors, parents groups, and Dollars For Scholars, a non profit organization for students interested in pursuing higher education after they graduate from high school.
