LEWISTON — The Pub at Baxter, 120 Mill St., is holding a mural submission contest through Wednesday, Aug. 10.
A winner is scheduled to be announced Friday, Aug. 12.
The mural must highlight Maine women, their role in the state’s history and how they’ve shaped movements and pioneered progress. If the Maine outdoors is included as well, that’s a bonus, according to a news release from Lauren Williamson, general manager.
The goal of this contest is to create a space for local artists to be able to display their work and cultivate a creative space in the community.
Artists of all levels are welcome to submit their proposal and get the chance to display their work on the front entrance to the Pub.
The winner will receive $700 for their work, and their art will be displayed until the spring, at which time another contest will be held.
For more information, call Williamson at 207-303-4520.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
