WILTON — Police said a traffic stop for a loud muffler Saturday night resulted in two arrests on drug charges.
A Wilton woman and a New Vineyard man were arrested after police stopped their vehicle for an inspection defect violation on the Lake Road near Main Street after 8 p.m. Saturday, Wilton Detective Richard Billian said Monday.
The officer smelled marijuana, providing a reason to search the vehicle and leading to the discovery of different kinds of oxycodone, drug paraphernalia and money, which were seized by police.
Karen Spivey, 22, Wilton, was charged with possession of illegal drugs, three counts of possesion of drug paraphernalia and a destruction of evidence as she attempted to destroy drug evidence found in the vehicle, he said.
Shane Webber, 24, of New Vineyard was charged with possession of illegal drugs.
Cpl. Nathan Bean of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and his drug-sniffing dog were called to the scene by Wilton officers Matthew Billian and Billie Martin.
Both Spivey and Webber were released from Franklin County Detention Center on Sunday on $250 cash bail and are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 19.
