Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset Counties plans to recognize supporters at this year’s annual meeting, which is open to the public.
The 2022 LVFSC meeting is scheduled for 4:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at its Mt. Blue Learning Center at 129 Seamon Road in Farmington, located in the Franklin County Adult Education center). The meeting is accessible online.
Established in 1978 as a public nonprofit, Literacy Volunteers has partnerships with over 61 collaborators, including volunteers.
The organization offers three programs; an adult tutoring program serves individualized and group tutoring partnerships, the free annual poetry contest for all ages and abilities is open every spring, and the gently used free book programs gave out 1,065 books so far this year, according to a news release from Barbara Averill, executive director.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
