LEWISTON — Museum L-A will offer a fun and educational program for children ages 9 through 13 from July 18-22. Campers will experiment with water wheels, magnets and electricity while they learn about life in the textile and shoe industries. Participants can join in for the whole week or on individual days. Monday, July 18: Find the connections between magnetism and electrical currents.
Tuesday, July 19: Construct model water wheels and experiment with using the energy of moving water to move and lift small objects.
Wednesday, July 20: Construct water wheels and mini-turbines with magnets and wire to produce electricity in a demonstration of hydropower.
Thursday, July 21: Through the “Bobbin Girl” program, learn about the lives of factory girls, construct a mini “Bobbin Girl” book and view the museum’s textile looms and enjoy textile-related activities.
Friday, July 22: Through the “A Mile in Our Shoes” program, tour the exhibit “Portraits & Voices: Shoemaking Skills of Generations,” learn how shoes are made and take part in shoe-related activities.
