WAYNE — The Town of Wayne will celebrate publication of the latest book by local author Edward L. Kallop Jr. at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at Cary Memorial Library, Old Winthrop Road.
Sponsored by the Wayne Historical Society, the event serves as the society’s traditional Annual Summer Program, a special event for the general public as well as society members.
Following selected readings by the author along with relevant commentary, invited will be audience comments, questions, related experiences and personal conversations. Refreshments will be served.
Wayne has a surprising number of resident authors, but unlike them, Kallop has heretofore written exclusively about the town’s history — three full-length books published by the society and several pieces for A Happy Abundance, which in 208 celebrated the society’s 10th anniversary.
This time it’s altogether different. Recently published by Soleil Press is a personal memoir from the author’s youth, titled “On to Paris We Sped,” and subtitled “The Adventures of a Young American Traveling Through Europe in the 1950’s.” For a full year the author, not long out of graduate school, served as shepherd for an exhibition of art works sponsored by the U.S. State Department, and for him it was a year of extraordinary adventures, memorable experiences and first-time discoveries.
Copies of the book, each individually signed by the author, will be available for purchase. Meantime, books are available in Wayne, at both library and general store, in Winthrop at Apple Valley Books as well as locations elsewhere, and at Amazon.com.
