The faculty of Jordan High School gave a farewell luncheon party Thursday noon for Miss Helen F. Sheehan of the faculty who leaves on Friday for Wakefield, Mass. to assume new duties.
The luncheon was a complete surprise to Miss Sheehan who attended with the thought of it being the regular luncheon which the faculty always enjoys at this time of the year.

The tables were charmingly arranged for the occasion, sweet peas flowers were used. The domestic arts department, under the direction of Miss Mary Leonard, with Miss Lillian Archibald assisting, prepared the delightful menu. There were 27 in the gathering.

Miss Sheehan was presented a purse of gold from her co-workers and she responded in the usual gracious manner that has made her so endeared to her faculty associates and students.

About three years ago Miss Sheehan came to Jordan High as an assistant instructor and immediately became popular for her pleasing personality, brilliance and capabilities. A year ago she became an instructor of mathematics and English and has continued very efficiently in that capacity since that time. Her going will be deeply regretted by many people outside of school circles who have enjoyed knowing her.

A high tribute was given to her by her students recently when they wrote, spontaneously, a message of farewell, expressing their regrets at her going. The entire class signed it.

A New Gloucester workman was treated at a Lewiston hospital this morning for carbon monoxide inhalation.

Paul Rea, 33, was reportedly cutting some cement with a power saw at the Warehouse Restaurant on Park Street when fumes in the enclosed area caused him to lose consciousness.
He was taken by other workmen to Central Fire Station, a block away, and an Allied Medical Services ambulance transported him from there to the Central Maine General Hospital. A hospital spokesman said he was released following treatment.

The up-and-down boxing career of Lewiston’s Joey Gamache, a two-time former world champion, has arrived at another huge fork in the road. One path leads to another big time fight. At the end of the other avenue is certain retirement.

Gamache (55-3, 39 KOs) will square off against hard-punching Arturo Gatti in a junior welterweight bout at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. The Gamache-Gatti bout, scheduled for 10 rounds, is the co-feature event underneath boxing superstar Oscar De La Hoya’s welterweight bout against Darrell Coley.
