“Steam shovels grinding and roaring, compressed air drills clanging and banging, mingling with the dull thuds of artesian well drilling machines, the creak of heavy carts and the chug of motor trucks adds much atmosphere of industry which the activities of a couple of hundred men make at the site of the Androscoggin River hydroelectric development on the Switzerland road. While much of the work now in progress there may well be described as preliminary, it is all an essential part of the job. Where a few months ago was dense growth of woods, hard and soft, is today a barren hillside and island top.”

“Lewiston’s police commissioners are going to find it difficult to say that employees of MBI in Portland, a private police agency, are not qualified to provide security at the Nordiques hockey games, Lewiston Police Chief Lucien Longtin said.”
