Since losing in its second game of the season on Dec. 6, Thornton Academy has won five straight while outscoring its foes 38-3. Hence, the Golden Trojans remain atop the Varsity Maine boys hockey poll and this week have received all nine first-place votes.

Cheverus/Yarmouth is also on a five-game heater and has moved from unranked in the previous poll to No. 2.

Messalonskee joins Thornton as the only two teams also ranked in the previous poll on Dec. 16. The Eagles, who dealt the Golden Trojans their only setback, are ranked third. The Cony co-op is ranked for the first time, and the Lewiston co-op rejoins the rankings at No. 5, the same spot it held in the winter’s first poll.

The Varsity Maine boys hockey poll is based on games played before Jan. 6, 2026. The top five teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
