Cheverus wasn’t able to finish the regular season unbeaten, but the Stags are the unanimous No. 1 in the Varsity Maine girls basketball poll for the fifth straight week.

Cheverus, which will be the top seed in the Class A South playoffs, suffered its first loss to Biddeford, but bounced back with a win over South Portland. The Red Riots defeated Sanford earlier in the week and maintain their No. 2 ranking. Biddeford lost its season finale to Sanford, but the win over Cheverus was enough for the Tigers to overtake Oceanside for fifth.

Otherwise, the rankings are a lot like last week’s. The only other change is Hampden Academy joining the poll and No. 10.

The Varsity Maine girls basketball poll is based on games played before Feb. 3, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
