Heading into the postseason, all of Class A is chasing Thornton Academy. The Golden Trojans are the reigning state champions, the top seed in the postseason, on a 16-game win streak and the unanimous No. 1 team in the Varsity Maine boys hockey poll for the eighth straight week. Their top contenders appear to be No. 3 Cheverus/Yarmouth and No. 4 Falmouth, which have swapped the places they held in last week’s rankings.

The No. 2 team, Messalonskee, doesn’t have to worry about Thornton — though the Eagles are the only team to beat the Trojans this season. Messalonskee still, however, will likely have its hand full in the Class B North tournament, which it enters as the top seed.

The No. 1 seed in B South Gorham/Massabesic, is ranked for the first time this season.

The Varsity Maine boys hockey poll is based on games played before Feb. 23, 2026. The top five teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
