TOPSHAM — The Edith Jones Project, an all-women big band, wants to help you “Swing into the Holidays” on Friday, Dec. 9, at Orion Performing Arts Center.

The 17-piece ensemble, with a tag line of “86 percent less testosterone than the average big band … 200 percent of the swing,” will perform at 7 p.m., at the arts center at Mt. Ararat Middle School.

The “Swing into the Holidays” concert will feature toe-tapping tunes and holiday classics, as well as solo work. Concertgoers can also expect band members to be up to their usual antics: jokes, festive props, impromptu dancing in the trumpet section and all around fun, with a holiday twist.

The Mt. Ararat Jazz Ensemble will perform a few songs and vocalist Audrey Burns, a junior at Mt. Ararat, will perform “Christmastime Is Here” with the Edith Jones Project. Allen Graffam, Mt. Ararat’s band director and a professional trumpeter, will also sit in with the big band on a Christmas anthem or two.

The Edith Jones Project, established in 2003, is made up of performing musicians and music educators in Maine’s public and private elementary, middle and high schools, as well as faculty from Bowdoin and Bates colleges and the universities of Maine and New Hampshire.

Tickets are $10, $7 for seniors and $5 for students. Proceeds will benefit Mt. Ararat music programs. For tickets, visit Music & Moore at the Topsham Fair Mall or call 838-0700 or 798-9201.
