Linus Hemstrom scored with 50 seconds left to lift the Maine Mariners to a 3-2 win over the Trois-Rivieres Lions on Sunday at Cross Insurance Arena for their franchise-record eight consecutive victory.
Hemstrom’s pass to the slot banked in off a Lions defender and past goalie William Lavalliere to give the Mariners their first lead of the game. Goaltender Billy Girard made two key saves in the closing seconds and stopped 19 shots to improve to 2-0 in his Mariners career.
Goals by Mark Estapa and Charles Martin gave the Lions a 2-0 lead early in the second period. The Mariners tied the game later in the period on goals by Zach Jordan and Jacob Hudson.
The Mariners (29-15-5-2) and Lions will meet again Friday night in Quebec.
