AUBURN — Week 8 in YMCA Biddy Basketball saw more evidence of improved players leading to improved overall play and a series of well-played contests between well-matched clubs. The lone unbeaten in the ranks had to come from behind and survive overtime to remain unblemished. The future bodes well for our area high schools with a wealth a youth talent on the horizon.

Junior Division

Leary & Detroy 47, Pat’s Pizza 46 (OT): After seeing a nine-point lead at the end of the third quarter evaporate, Pat’s took a 40-38 lead with nine ticks left on the clock. Khadar Heeban laid one in to tie it up with two seconds on the clock to force overtime. L&D outlasted Pat’s by a 7-6 margin in the hree- minute extra stanza to remain unbeaten in a rematch of a Week 1 thriller.

Austin Brown continued his hot shooting, leading the winning attack with 20 points. Ethan Brown, Chantel Ouelette and Heeban added eight points apiece. Serena Mower added three points. Ethan Bosse and Heeban played solid all-around games to contribute to the hard-earned victory.

Tyler Swanbeck nearly carried Pat’s to the upset, torching the twines for a game-high 25. Tyler Libby added 10. Other scorers for Pat’s were Devaunte Rembert (five), Josh Kaiser (four) and Oceanna Chamberlain (two). Josh Hamel and Dan Nalley each delivered an inspired effort.

Platz Associates 38, Downeast Financial 35: The final margin was also the largest margin as Platz outlasted Downeast in a nip-and-tuck affair. Everyone on the Platz roster found the score sheet in an outstanding team effort. Ben English and Nathan Farnsworth shared the team-high honors with eight points each. Emmy Lashua and Abdul Mohamed followed closely with six points apiece, and Joel Stubbs added four. Teagan Galway, Julia Masters and David Oken rounded out the scoring with a bucket each.

Sharp-shooting Hank Duval led all scorers with 16 points for Downeast. Grant Hartley and Grace Beaudet added eight and seven points, respectively. Sarah Sterling and Jayson Taylor each chipped in two. Nick Davis, Sofia Hartley, Katelyn Jipson and Kirsten Main crashed the boards with abandon.

American Concrete 41, Emerson Toyota 40: American Concrete overcame a seven-point deficit after three quarters to outlast Emerson in a battled that went to the final horn. Tyler Morin led all scorers with 19 points and displayed a court general’s presence. Mohamed Mohamed followed with 10 points. Courtney Richard, Patrick Luizzo and Hunter McQuade with the other scorers with six, five and one, respectively. Otis Caron, Nick Hartley and Keegan Pelletier were relentless on the defensive end for the winners.

Emerson used a balanced scoring attack led by Jacob Kyajohnian’s 12 to keep pace with American. Storm Davis Jipson was next with a season high eight points. Kyle Herald bulled his way to six points. Jaden Legare (four), Bobby Tremaine (three), Alex Thompson (three), Madison Thistlewaite (two) and Olivia DuBois (two) rounded out the scoring for Emerson. Rosalie White had a solid all-around game.

Hoop Camp 32, Gee & Bee Sporting Goods 17: Jahlen Coney turned the paint into “Coney Island,” dominating to the tune of 19 points leading Hoop Camp to a win over Gee & Bee. Jahvon Coney joined Jahlen crashing the boards and adding five points. Point guard Piper Norcross and Richard Thurston each added four to complete the scoring. Key contributors to the defensive lockdown were Brian Demers, Taylor Depot, Spencer Morrill, Camden Poisson and Ryan Salk.

Caleb Yarnevich led the way for Gee & Bee running the offense and adding nine points. Ryan Therriault was next with four. Christian Beliveau and Shane Gauthier added two apiece. Kathryn Childs, Jonah Crowell, Giles Paradie, Cameron Winslow and Selina Gauthier added grit to the cause.

Pee Wee Division

Hahnel Bros. 24, M&P Used Auto Parts 20: Hahnel opened up a 10-2 first quarter advantage and held serve the rest of the way in a victory over M&P. Ben Sirois led the winners with a game-high 12 points. Jacob Jackson and Luke Josephson each tossed in  four points. Declan Giroux and Steven Parshall added two points apiece to complete the scoring. Tristin Blossom, Trevor Bosse, Matt Metivier and Cody Saunders were defensive catalysts for the winners.

Justin Bulmer led the way for M&P with 10 points. Aaron Galway was next with six, followed by Harrison Gray (two) and John Shea (two). Sam Courtemanche, Shane Kilby, Josh Murphy and Joey Shea were playmakers and hustlers.

Sun Journal 25, Hammond Lumber 21: Sun Journal protected a five-point halftime edge to tip Hammond Lumber. Cayden Childs led the scoring for SJ with six points. Ari Perry broke into the scoring column with five big points. Jamaine Luizzo, Wyatt Morse and Devonte Scott added four each. Elijah Demers contributed the final two points. Andrea Demers, Emily Kramarz and Noah Peck were stout on defense.

Max Creaser led all scorers with 17 for Hammond. Rylen Schenk and Michelle Cowie each added two from the line. Brady Cox, Quincy Coachman, Tyson Green, Liam Flynn, Cameron Langis and Aiden Hebert played tough two-way games.

Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shoppe 23, Anthoine Financial 19: Hunter Young led all scorers with 11 points to lead Sam’s to a win over a quickly improving Anthoine squad. Matt Scholer added seven points for the winners. Nick Kaiser (four) and Ray Nichols (one) completed the scoring. Anna LeBlanc, Kora Martel, Madisyn Turcotte and Ben Webber were defensive stoppers.

Olivia Ouellette led a balanced Anthoine offense with six points. Anson Perry hustled his way to five points. Nick Gagne added four with Jordan Cummings and Ella Perry each contributing a bucket. Lindsay Adams, Braden Paradie, Marshall Adams and Meaza Paradie inspired the effort with their hustle.

Morrison & Sylvester 31, Austin Associates 24: Ethan Chute scored 10 of his game-high 18 in the first quarter to lead M&S over Austin. Joey Vallee added nine points for the winners. Cooper Watkins added the final four. Calvin Ames, Alex Thistlewaite, Finnegan Thistle, Addison Dostie and Simon Hayes enjoyed strong two-way performances.

Caleb Davis led Austin with a team-high 12 points. Elizabeth Marcotte and Chase Martin added four each. Julia Berube and Lydia Celani each chipped in with two. Jason Brooker, Libby Forgues, Zachery Jawer and Owen Hamel worked hard on the boards.

C.B. Bachmann 24, Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli 15: Dominick Jacobs led the way with 10 points as Bachmann upended Heidi’s. Dylan Sellinger and Mike Chaput each added six for the winners. Hannah Chaput chipped in a bucket. Jack Hart, Tyler Jalbert, Fiona King, Austin Sellinger and Caroline White keyed a tough Bachmann team defense.

Emily Piper was the scoring leader for Heidi’s with seven points. Caroline Hammond was next with six. Ryan Marston added the final bucket. Dylan Bilodeau, Landon Cougle, Cameron Irish, Ben Poland, Tyler Smith and Connor LeClerc added hustle and defense for Heidi’s.

Grade 4 Travel

The Auburn Lewiston YMCA 4th grade boys travel team defeated the Sportszone house team in its opening game on Sunday, 24-12. Austin Brown led the YMCA with 15 points. Joel Stubbs had four points, while Giles Paradie and Joey Vallee contributed two points apiece. Braden Demers was the leading scorer for Sportszone with four points.

Grade 5-6 Girls Travel

Turner 37, YMCA 15 — Turner: Sophie Gilbert 11, Kassie Murch 9; YMCA: P. Norcross 5, J. Perry 3.
