Cote Bros. Sewing Machines also sharpens and tunes up scissors for 75 cents per inch. Sun Spots received the following update letter from Ron Cote after the company moved last fall. Part of his edited letter follows.

“Both Creative Sewing Center, which we sold a couple of years ago, and Cote Bros. Sewing Machines, which is the industrial and service division, used to operate at the same location.

“Cote’s moved to 200 Auburn Road, Turner, ME 04282, exactly 5 miles north of old location right next to Dunkin’ Donuts. Our new phone number is 225-5920.

“Creative Sewing Center moved to the Harvard Mall on Center Street right across from Burger King, and they retained the old phone number 782-5922 They are under new ownership as well — Gary Drinkwater.

I still do all of Creative’s service work and also do domestic (household) sewing machine service on all makes directly at my shop. I also pick up and deliver for the elderly. I am authorized service center for warantee work on Brother, Bernina, and Juki. I also sell and service industrial sewing machines, including on-the-road service work.

“I sharpen scissors with a professional scissor sharpener, including pinking shears. I don’t do left-handed scissors.

“We sell used home sewing machine and new Juki’s. We also will take donated machines, repair them and then donate them to a civic organization or church group. We have a lot of machines on display, including industrial machines, so customers can come in and try them out. I have been servicing the sewn products trade for over 25 years, and Cote’s has been in business since 1956. — Ron Blake, president, ron@cotebrothers.com”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to Bonnie (June 11), who was interested in a photo of “Mush” Moore and said her daughter Jennifer was related to him, Mush Moore was my uncle, and I have the picture from Gerry in Canada.

Bonnie’s description indicated that all of Jennifer’s family has passed away. If this is true, Mush Moore’s family is not related to your daughter. Of course, there are other Moores in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

More than 30 years ago we started an ancestry file on our Moore family. It has been handled by four individuals, who supplied us with accurate information, and is complete, covering from the early 1600s to the present time.

We only have one Jennifer (Lynn Moore) in our family tree. She lives in California and is the daughter of one of my nephews. Both are still living.
