Trail ride for Children’s Hospital

ANDOVER — Ellis River Riders will host a trail ride to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital on Saturday, July 28.

Mexico High Class of 1953

MEXICO — Mexico High School Class of 1953 and guests will meet for their class luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Chicken Coop.

Science at Mexico Library

MEXICO — As part of the Terrific Tuesdays summer program for kids, the Mexico Public Library will host a special program at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31.

Bitsy Ionta, scientist and educator, will present a hands-on program of fun with science. The program is geared for kids ages 2-14.

The event will be held at the Calvin Lyons Hall, next door to the library. For information call the library at 364-3281.

Ionta to visit Rumford Library

RUMFORD — Mr. Science, Bitsy Ionta, will visit the Rumford Public Library at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, with an awesome display of scientific demonstrations, several of which will be hands-on.

Ionta is a former science teacher who can frequently be found volunteering in the local schools, sharing his interest in all things having to do with science.

There is still time to participate in the summer reading program. Children interested may get further information about the program and the reading incentives by picking up a reading packet in the Children’s Room. Gift certificates, passes and prizes are some of the incentives.

All programs are free of charge and open to all area children and their friends. Parents and other care givers are welcome to attend and are encouraged to accompany younger children.

Art Center show on Aug. 4

ANDOVER — Pennacook Art Center will have their annual Andover Olde Home Days show this year at the Andover Library. The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.

Photos, prints, original paintings, hand-weaving and drawings by local artists will be for sale. Randy Rickards and friends will provide live music. For more information call 364-7243.

Blazing Star chicken BBQ

MEXICO — A chicken barbecue will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Blazing Star Lodge, Route 232, Rumford Corner.

Menu will be chicken, mashed potato, green beans, stuffing, macaroni salad, cole slaw, gravy, cranberry sauce, coffee, punch and pie. Adults, $10; under 12, $5.

Take outs available. There is a stair chair on the back stairs.
