BETHEL — The Board of Selectmen will continue discussion on a dog park proposal Monday night, including a referendum asking residents’ permission to accept donations to construct it.
During the Feb. 11 board meeting, Town Manager Jim Doar said he would draft language for a referendum on the dog park proposal at the June annual town meeting.
According to the board’s agenda, the tentative wording for the referendum question is: “To see if the Town will authorize the Board of Selectmen to accept cash donations from municipalities, private individuals, and foundations; and to accept donations of materials, equipment, labor and services; all for the purpose of constructing a Dog Park at Davis Park under terms and conditions acceptable to the Board of Selectmen.”
Doar said selectmen could decide to change certain parts of the question as they see fit.
“I honestly don’t know what they’re going to do yet,” Doar said. “The warrant doesn’t have to be finalized yet, so they have time to change it around if they want to.”
The board will also discuss terms and conditions for the construction of the dog park at the meeting Monday.
“We’ll be trying to figure out things like how it’s constructed, under what conditions, that sort of stuff,” Doar said. “What we like to do is have everyone know the terms and conditions of the dog park before they go to vote ‘yay’ or ‘nay.’ This way, it’s transparent.”
Other items on Monday’s agenda include a discussion on whether or not to discontinue a portion of Route 2 next to the property of David and Deborah Luxton. The agenda states that when the Maine Department of Transportation rebuilt Route 2, a section of the old road, which is no longer in use, was turned over to the municipality.
If the board decides to discontinue the road, the property will go to the Luxtons.
The board will also discuss whether to renew the liquor and entertainment licenses for the Bethel Commodore Corp.
