BUCKFIELD — Dalton Hart had six hits, including the game-winner in game one, and drove in seven runs to lead Buckfield to a doubleheader sweep of previously unbeaten Valley, 6-5 and 14-5, in EWC baseball action on Saturday.
Hart drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh of game one. He knocked in four runs and was one of five Bucks with two hits, along with Owen Bennett, Tyler Vallee, Jared Eastman and Ben Strout. Jonah Williams picked up the win on the mound by fanning 12 and not issuing a walk. Seth Malloy led the Cavaliers with three hits.
Hart and the rest of the Buckfield offense kept cooking in game two, rapping 18 hits, led by Hart’s four, to go with three RBIs. Jared Eastman added three hits for the Bucks (7-1), while Vallee, Bennett, Williams (three runs scored) and Garrett Hamann chipped in with two hits apiece. Hamann also picked up the victory with a complete game in which he scattered 14 hits while fanning 10. Josh West and Luke Malloy each had a double among their two hits to lead Valley (7-2).
St. Dom’s 6, Spruce Mountain 0
LIVERMORE FALLS — Winning pitcher Michael Bryant went the distance, struck out nine batters, walked two and threw no-hitter as undefeated St. Dom’s (13-0) overpowered Spruce Mountain (7-6) with a 6-0 victory in a baseball game Saturday.
The game remained scoreless for four innings before Caleb Dostie slapped a two-run double in the fifth inning. Dostie collected three RBIs for the day and drove in a run during the Saints’ four-run uprising in the seventh inning.
Zak Johnson and Mitch Lorenz each had two hits for the Saints.
Softball
Buckfield sweeps Valley
BUCKFIELD — Buckfield piled up 38 runs to sweep its EWC softball doubleheader with Valley, 20-5 and 18-13.
Samantha Zak led the Bucks with two hits in each game, driving in four runs in game one. Arrabine Dunn cracked two triples and a double in the two games.
The Bucks exploded for 10 runs in the second inning to run away with game one. Elizabeth Strout, Hannah Gallant and Dakota Warren clubbed two hits apiece for Buckfield, while Teagan Lawyerson had two hits, including a double, to lead Valley. Amber Arseneault allowed just four hits in five innings to pick up the victory.
Alexis Bennett, Ashley Campbell and Courtney Lowell joined the hit parade with two apiece in game two. Kelly Charity picked up the win in the circle for the Bucks (5-6). Megan Medlin and Courtney Mills paced the Cavaliers (0-9) with three hits each.
Spruce Mtn. 11, St. Dom’s 2
JAY — Spruce Mountain played great defense and took advantage of some St. Dom’s miscues for an 11-2 victory in MVC softball action on Saturday.
Emily Keene hit a bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning to help the Phoenix pull away. Katelin Castonguay scattered six hits to pick up the win in the circle. Bethney Fox went 3-for-3 with a triple to lead St. Dom’s, while Sarah Trott also had a run-scoring triple.
